Ashuwillticook is a Native American work meaning, "the pleasant river in between the hills" which aptly describes this bike path that runs along the Hoosac River in western Massachusetts. With the Hoosac Mountain Range to the east and Mt. Graylock (and lesser mountains) to the west, the trail offers spectacular views in all directions as it travels 11 miles though the towns of Adams, Cheshire and Laneborough. There are numerous benches and picnic tables on the trail if you want to take a break and enjoy the scenery. I suggest stopping at Farnam's Crossing on Cheshire Lake for lunch or a snack break. The view of the lake surrounded by mountains is fantastic. But bring your own food and drinks. There aren't any stores nearby (as far as I know). There is a bathroom though if you've been over hydrating!
View of Mt. Graylock from the Adams trail head. The war memorial is visible above the trees.
Rivers, marshes, ponds and lakes abound.
Waterfall on the Hoosac River.
One of the few homes on the trail. And the nicest.
This small cottage on Cheshire Lake is obviously home to an avid runner.
Interesting flower. Can anyone identify it?

Another lakeside view.
I apologize for the poor image quality. I took these photos with my iPhone, 3G. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...or buy the latest version!
